Simplify Hard Passages to B1 Level

Read the book you want now, at a level you can follow, and move up to the original later.

Classic literature uses long sentences, rare words and old-fashioned phrasing that can stop an intermediate reader cold. The simplified mode rewrites a page at roughly B1 on the CEFR scale (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), keeping the characters, events and plot.

Free, no sign-up.

How it works

  1. Open the reading mode selector in the toolbar.
  2. Choose Simplified.
  3. The page is rewritten in clearer wording. This takes a moment for each new page.
  4. Switch back to Original at any time, without losing your place.

The same story, easier wording

Simplification shortens long sentences and replaces rare or archaic words with more familiar ones. It does not summarise: the events and characters stay the same.

Move between levels

Treat the simplified text as a ramp. Read a page simplified, then switch to the original and see how much more you understand. The audio narrator reads whichever version is on screen.

Saved for next time

Simplified pages are saved in your browser, so rereading a page you have already simplified is instant.

Questions

What does B1 mean?
B1 is the intermediate level on the CEFR scale: you can follow the main points of clear text on familiar topics. Many classic novels are written well above it.
Does simplification change my original book?
No. Your uploaded book stays as it is. The simplified version is a separate view that you can turn on and off.
