My Dictionary: A Personal Word List from Your Reading
One searchable list of every word you chose to keep, with the meaning you picked.
Every word you save while reading lands in My Dictionary. You can also add words by hand, for example a word from a conversation or a lesson, choose which meanings to keep, and come back to the list whenever you want to look something up or review it.
Free, no sign-up.
How it works
- Save a word from a lookup while reading, or press Add a word in My Dictionary.
- Type the word or phrase, choose the language for the translation and press Translate.
- Pick one or more of the suggested meanings, or type your own, then add it to your dictionary.
- Search the list, filter it by book, listen to a word, or edit its translation at any time.
Add any word, not just words from books
The Add a word dialog takes a word or a short phrase and suggests two to four meanings in the language you choose. Select the ones you want to keep: several can be picked and are stored together as the translation. You can also type a translation yourself.
A word that is already in your dictionary for the same language is not added twice.
Search, filter and edit
Search finds saved words as you type, and the book filter narrows the list to the words from one book. Every entry has a play button to hear the word spoken, and an edit option to change the translation using the same meaning suggestions.
Entries you saved while reading keep the name of the book they came from.
The same words become flashcards
Each entry is also a flashcard with three plausible wrong answers, so the words you collect can be practised as multiple-choice cards. A word you answer correctly is marked as learned and stays in the dictionary, and you can put it back into practice with Learn again.
Private, in your browser
Your dictionary is stored on your device. There is no account and no server-side list. Suggesting meanings sends only the word you typed to the translation service, and removing an entry deletes it from your browser.
Questions
- What is the difference between My Dictionary and Flashcards?
- My Dictionary is the full list of your saved words, which you can search, filter and edit. Flashcards is the practice mode that quizzes you on the words that are not learned yet. They use the same saved words.
- Can I add a word without reading a book?
- Yes. Open My Dictionary and press Add a word. Type the word or phrase, pick the language and the meanings you want to keep, and save it.
- Does it work offline?
- You can browse and search the words you have already saved without a connection. Suggesting new meanings needs an internet connection, but you can still type a translation yourself.
