Feature
Word Lookup in Context While You Read
A dictionary entry gives you ten meanings. A contextual lookup gives you the one that fits.
Tap a word in the original text, or a short run of words, and a popup shows its meaning in the sentence you are reading. Words change meaning with their neighbours, and idioms mean nothing word for word, so the lookup takes the surrounding sentence into account.

How it works
- Tap a word, or select a short phrase, in the paragraph you are reading.
- Read the translation for that exact context in the popup.
- For one or two words, also see the pronunciation and a few synonyms.
- Save it as a flashcard, or close the popup and keep reading.
Meaning that fits the sentence
A word like "bank" or "light" has several meanings. The popup shows the one used in your sentence, with a short explanation when the sense is not obvious.
Words, phrases and idioms
Select up to a few words to translate a phrase as a unit. Pronunciation and synonyms are shown for single words and pairs, where they are most useful.
From lookup to flashcard
Any word you look up can be saved as a flashcard in one tap. The card remembers the book it came from, so you can review words from a single book later.
Questions
- What if the lookup fails?
- The popup shows that the lookup is unavailable and offers a Retry button, instead of showing a wrong translation.
- Does it work on the translated text too?
- Yes. You can tap words in the translation as well as the original, which helps when you are reading in a language you are still learning to understand.
